About Us

Our mission and vision as an organisation

Who we are.

The Federation of Asian Photographic Art (FAPA), also known as the 亞洲影藝聯盟, was established in 1966. It brought together major photography associations from countries such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. FAPA aims to promote mutual understanding among photographers and bridge cultural gaps through photography.

Our Vision and Mission

FAPA’s vision extends beyond technical mastery; it aims to create a dynamic platform for Asian photographers. At every congress, participants engage in photo tours, seminars, lectures, and exhibitions. These events foster artistic exploration, skill development, and cross-cultural understanding. With over three hundred delegates attending each biannual gathering, FAPA has emerged as the fourth-largest photographic society globally.

Our Objectives

The Federation of Asian Photographic Art (FAPA) has several key objectives:

  1. Promoting Photography: FAPA aims to foster the growth and appreciation of photography across Asia. By organizing events, exhibitions, and workshops, it encourages artistic expression and technical excellence among photographers.

  2. Cultural Exchange: FAPA provides a platform for photographers from diverse Asian countries to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. It celebrates cultural diversity and encourages cross-cultural dialogue through photography.

  3. Advocacy and Education: FAPA advocates for the recognition of photography as an art form. It supports educational initiatives, workshops, and seminars to enhance photographers’ skills and knowledge.

  4. Networking and Collaboration: FAPA facilitates networking opportunities among photographers, allowing them to collaborate on projects, exchange experiences, and build professional relationships.

  5. Preserving Photographic Heritage: FAPA recognizes the importance of preserving photographic heritage. It encourages the documentation and conservation of historical and contemporary photographic works.

Overall, FAPA plays a vital role in uniting Asian photographers, promoting their work, and advancing photography as a powerful medium of expression.

Founding and Growth

In November 1966, FAPA officially came into existence in Taipei. The inaugural congress gathered sixty delegates from nine Asian countries. Professor Chin-San Long assumed the role of the first president, later becoming the permanent honorary president of FAPA.

Over the past six decades, FAPA has flourished. With 39 members spanning 19 countries, the organization hosts biennial congresses, each member country taking turns as the event’s host. These gatherings have graced cities like Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration.
